Who this is for

Senior cover for estates without a senior DBA.

Most production databases are not broken. They are under-owned: the person who knew them has moved on, the provider escalates everything, or the one DBA is also the whole platform team. We take that ownership on, remotely, at senior level.
  • Businesses in the US, UK, Europe, Canada, Australia or New Zealand running SQL Server, Oracle or PostgreSQL in production without a dedicated senior DBA.
  • IT leaders who want a named engineer they can reach directly, rather than a ticket queue and an escalation path.
  • Estates on versions leaving vendor support, such as SQL Server 2016 (extended support ended July 2026), or with an upgrade, cloud move or migration ahead.
  • Software and SaaS companies whose product runs on a database that nobody on the team fully owns.
  • Managed service providers who need senior database capability behind their own service without hiring for it.
What is covered

Everything a full-time senior DBA would do.

Managed DBA and 24/7 support

Monitoring, maintenance, patching and on-call incident response under one fixed monthly fee, delivered by the engineer who knows your estate.
  • Named senior DBA, direct contact
  • Agreed response commitments, reported against
  • One fixed monthly fee, scope agreed upfront

Backups proven by restores

Backups are verified by restoring them, integrity checks are run, and the recovery time is measured rather than assumed.
  • Restore tests on a schedule
  • Integrity checks and corruption detection
  • Recovery objectives agreed with the business

Performance tuning

Execution plans, waits, locking and configuration reviewed against the real workload, with indexing and settings tuned rather than left at defaults.
  • Execution plan and wait analysis
  • Index and statistics maintenance
  • Configuration checked, not defaulted

High availability and disaster recovery

Availability groups, clustering, replication and log shipping designed around agreed recovery objectives and exercised deliberately.
  • Recovery objectives agreed before any design
  • Failover tested, not just configured
  • The gap between backup and recovery made explicit

Upgrades, migrations and cloud moves

Version upgrades, consolidation, Oracle to PostgreSQL moves and migrations to the cloud, with compatibility assessed first, a test environment on the target and a rehearsed cutover.
  • Compatibility assessment before anything moves
  • Rehearsed cutover with a real rollback path
  • Old system kept until the new one is proven

Health checks and consulting

Independent assessment of configuration, capacity, security, backups and version risk, ending in a prioritised list of what to fix first.
  • Platform choice judged per workload
  • Vendor-neutral: we do not resell licences
  • The reasoning attached, so you can act on it yourself
How engagement works

Three steps, no service desk.

STEP 01

Start with a health check

An independent, remote assessment of the estate, ending in a prioritised list of what to fix first and a clear view of what ongoing cover should include.

STEP 02

Agree the scope and one monthly retainer

What we take on and what stays with your team is written down, with response commitments we report against. Retainers are fixed and quoted in USD, GBP or EUR.

STEP 03

Work with a named senior DBA

Access runs through your own VPN, bastion or jump host with named accounts and multi-factor authentication. You deal directly with the engineer who knows your estate, around the clock.

Proof

Work we can show.

Client names stay confidential unless a client has agreed otherwise, so our case studies are anonymised. They describe real engagements and the reasoning behind the decisions.
Common questions

Questions international clients ask.

  • Where are you based, and does it matter?

RadixTrie is a South African company with offices in Johannesburg and Stellenbosch. We work in UTC+2, which overlaps the full UK and European working day and the US morning and afternoon, and production support runs 24/7 regardless. Our costs are rand-based, and we quote fixed retainers in USD, GBP or EUR.

  • How do you access our environment?

Through the access path you already control: your VPN, bastion host or jump server, with named accounts and multi-factor authentication. Access is scoped to what the work needs, sessions are auditable, and we work inside your environment rather than moving data out of it.

  • Do you sign a data processing agreement?

Yes. We expect to sign your data processing agreement and security schedule before any access is granted, and we welcome a review by your security team before anything starts.

  • Do you replace our DBA or work alongside them?

Either. Some clients hand the estate over entirely under a managed DBA agreement; others keep an in-house DBA and use us for senior cover, specific projects or the work that never gets done. The split is agreed upfront and written into the scope.

  • Is support genuinely 24/7?

Yes. Production support runs around the clock under agreed response commitments, and we report against those commitments rather than asking you to take them on trust.

  • How do we start?

Use the form on this page or email expert@radixtrie.com. A senior DBA replies directly, and the first conversation is about understanding your estate, not selling to it.
